WINNERS OF 1:100 WAREHOUSE REIMAGINED COMPETITION ANNOUNCED

THREE WINNERS OF THE COMPETITION ANNOUNCED ON MARCH 2ND BEFORE A PANEL TALK, PART OF ‘WEDNESDAYS AT THE WAREHOUSE’ PROGRAMME

On March 2, Warehouse421 announced the three winners of the 1:100 Warehouse Reimagined competition.  Tilal by Esra’a Bahman was announced as the 1st place winner. Disposition by Hayder Mahdi won second place and The Apocalyse by Raneem Al Nrshi came in third place.

In anticipation of the launch of Warehouse421, where industrial warehouses were converted into an arts and culture space by Architect Bjirke Ingels, the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation invited the community to artistically transform 3D warehouse models. Thirty models were submitted and 16 models were selected for exhibition at Warehouse421.

The 1:100 Warehouse Reimagined exhibition opened during the launch of Warehouse421 in November 2015, and presented individual artistic representations of a warehouse. The exhibition explored the idea of transformation, as well as highlighted the actuality of Mina Zayed and Warehouse421. Throughout the duration of the exhibition visitors were able to vote for their favorite model. Voting ended on Thursday 31 December, 2015 with more than 2000 ballots being cast.

The three winners of this competition were announced yesterday, on Wednesday 2 March, by Angela Migally, Executive Director, Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation.

“We are so pleased to announce the winners of the first arts and design competition at Warehouse421,” says Angela Migally about the competition.  “Warehouse421 was created as a space for the Abu Dhabi and UAE community to engage with and make art in a welcoming and accessible way.  We thank all the participants for contributing to the success of the exhibition and all who voted for their favorite submission.”

Winner design Tilal, with over 300 votes, was inspired on Arabic culture, daily life in the past and how it has evolved through time. The model presents a pride in the Arabic woman and the beauty of the burqa. Mahdi’s design Disposition created a warehouse that stood apart from the others with its structure of copper and stainless steel roof of nearly 1000 stainless steel triangles; and Al Narshe’s model The Apocalyse, inspired by the water around Mina Zayed, was able to change its form and adapt to an event of a flood.

This competition falls in line with Warehouse421 and the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation to encourage artistic participation and cultural growth throughout Abu Dhabi and the UAE. All three winners received a Certificate of Award as well as monetary prize.

Visitors are encouraged to visit Warehouse421, for a last chance to view the winning models and the others on display before the exhibition closes officially on Saturday 19 March 2016.
