Participants in this inventive 3-part workshop series will be encouraged to explore – and expand – their own creative boundaries.

The 3 part course takes place on 8th, 15th and 22nd May.

The course is the brainchild of Edward Bakst, an academic instructor with a penchant for challenging the status quo, whose programs are designed to spark self-discovery, self-expression, brainstorming, ideation and the creation of abstract conceptual designs.

The first session of this course will begin with an introduction to the topic and an overview of the course objectives. In each follow-up session, participants will present their own visual concepts for the group to discuss, before leaving with a new assignment for the next session.

In addition to group discussion and instruction, in order to expose participants to new ideas and practices, the course will also include film screenings and the analysis of art and animations from some of the world’s expressive artists.

Nomadic Traces: Journeys of Arabian Scripts, curated by Dr Huda Smitshuijzen AbiFarès, continues at Warehouse421 this month. The exhibition explores the origins of six of the most influential alphabets in the history of the Middle East, and features new commissioned works by artists and designers from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine.

We are also excited to be hosting Al Rabi’a, an experimental, process-led space by the visual artist, Shaikha Al Ketbi, running until 2 June. Featuring static and moving paintings depicting scenes from the artist’s dreams, juxtaposed with fabricated recollections, Al Ketbi will further activate the space throughout May in collaboration with other members of the Warehouse421 creative community.

This month’s program also includes the completion of short courses on documentary film and theatre acting, as well as workshops on henna art, drawing and painting, and graphic design, as part of our Ramadan program.

The “Khayal” series in collaboration with Early Starters, which brings children’s books to life through readings and activities, also continues in May with an inspirational session on the power of imagination and the magic of ideas.

As always, Warehouse421 is proud to be working with a range of local and international partners including Cinema Akil, Early Starters and Khatt Foundation, among others, on its public programs and events.
