Introduction to Jewelry Design – Course A

Participants in this four-part short course will receive a practical introduction to designing and making contemporary jewelry, with a particular focus on working with brass and silver. Participants will have the opportunity to work creatively from original drawings, develop their jewelry making skills, and explore contemporary forms in metal.  Technical processes covered in the course include piercing and sawing an intricate design into a backplate using a jeweler’s saw with a very fine blade, fabricating a pendant or earring from scratch, using brass and silver plates and sawed pieces to assemble flexible jewelry, and conducting finishing and polishing.

This session – the first of a series on tolerance – will include an introduction to tolerance in its many forms, including respecting the differences of others, before turning its attention to the role of the UAE as a model for tolerance. Participants will take part in a wide range of activities related to tolerance and diversity, including a book reading, ‘Flags of the World’ bingo, and completing an art project – that illustrates the benefits of blending and working with others.

FEBRUARY at Warehouse421

Warehouse421 presents a diverse series of workshops, talks, short courses, film screenings and book readings for the people of Abu Dhabi in February.

The Architecture of Loneliness exhibition, co-curated with Gulf Photo Plus, continues until the middle of the month.  To coincide with the completion of its run, photographers exhibited in the will be participating, alongside others, in a moderated discussion on the spirit of places.

This month’s interactive program includes a new four-part course on designing and making jewelry, the commencement of a four-month theatre course [including two face-to-face sessions per month] on developing characters and bringing them to life on stage, plus standalone workshops on photography and the creative process.

The “Khayal” series in collaboration with Early Starters, which brings children’s books to life with readings and fun activities, continues in February with the first of a series of sessions to be held on tolerance and diversity in the months ahead.  We are also excited to be commencing a new partnership with Thinkers & Doers that will begin with an esteemed panel discussion on urban citizenship.

The“Herstory: Film & The Arab Woman” series, being hosted in collaboration with Cinema Akil and featuring contemporary films by or about Arab women, will continue its run at Warehouse421 until April 2019, with another two films – Black Mamba and The Journey – being screened this month. 

We are  proud to welcome the Residents of Art Dubai to Warehouse421 for the second year running.

As always, Warehouse421 is proud to be working with a number of local and international partners, including Gulf Photo Plus, Early Starters, Thinkers & Doers, and Cinema Akil, among others.
